Orange Coast Wins 2006-07 Pepsi/NATYCAA Cup
Sacramento,
CA . . . The Community College League of California Commission on Athletics (COA),
in association with the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators
(NATYCAA), today released the final standings of the 2006-07 Pepsi/NATYCAA Cup,
State Associations Division.
Orange Coast College (Costa
Mesa, CA) topped the final standings with a score of 164 points. Finishing second
was Sierra College (Rocklin, CA) with 158 points, followed by Fresno City College
(Fresno, CA) with 154 points. Rounding out the top ten are Riverside Community
College (Riverside, CA), Cerritos College (Norwalk, CA), Mt. San Antonio College
(Walnut, CA), Sacramento City College (Sacramento, CA), American River College
(Sacramento, CA), Long Beach City College (Long Beach, CA), and Santa Rosa Jr.
College (Santa Rosa, CA).
During the 2006-07 season,
Orange Coast won state championships in women's cross country, women's volleyball,
and men's swim and dive. Orange Coast has placed in the Pepsi Cup top-ten each
of the four years the award has been presented, finishing as high as third place
in 2004-05.
A college is awarded points
based on its teams' final positions in post-conference competition. Each college's
top-five men's and top-five women's team results count toward the school's overall
point total. Complete standings, scoring criteria, and a history of the Pepsi
Cup are available on the COA Web site, www.coasports.org.
NATYCAA is the professional
organization of two-year college athletic administrators and membership is open
to all two-year institutions from throughout the country. The Pepsi NATYCAA
Awards were designed to recognize and reward overall program excellence at the
two-year college level. The criteria for the State Associations division were
developed by the COA in conjunction with the California Community College Sports
Information Association (CCCSIA). This is the fourth year that NATYCAA has sponsored
a State Associations division. Sierra College captured the inaugural award in
2003-04. Fresno City College won the award in 2004-05 and Long Beach City College
claimed the top spot in 2005-06.
Orange Coast College will
be recognized at the Pepsi/NATYCAA Awards Luncheon, held during the 2007 NATYCAA
Convention, June 6-7 at the World Center Marriott Resort in Orlando, Florida.
Awards will be presented to the top three colleges, and the top twenty schools
in the division will receive recognition.
