COA Announces
Student Athletes of the Month
Sacramento,
CA . . . The Community College League of California Commission on Athletics
(COA), in partnership with the California Community College Sports Information
Association (CCCSIA) today named Rene Escobar (Riverside College, baseball)
and Corrine Milligan (Citrus College, softball) as the COA Student Athletes
of the Month for February 2007.
Rene
Escobar, a 5-foot-11, 190-pound first baseman from Perris HS, has been a
consistent producer for the Tigers, the state's top-ranked team and No. 2 in
the nation. Escobar batted .426 (29-for-68) for the month, including 13 extra-base
hits. In just 14 games, he knocked in a team-leading 29 runs, while scoring
19 and his .750 slugging percentage ranks among the best in the state. Defensively,
Escobar has been stellar, posting a .995 fielding percentage with just one error
in 185 chances.
Corrine
Milligan, a 5-foot-8 righthanded pitcher from Bonita HS in Pomona, has been
the catalyst in leading the Fighting Owls to one of the best starts in school
history. Milligan posted a 1.03 ERA, while striking out 92 batters in 68 innings
of work, including seven complete games. The stellar athlete has also been strong
at the plate, batting .410 with 11 runs and seven RBI. She is currently in the
top-10 statewide in strikeouts and wins and in the top-20 statewide in strikeouts
per seven innings and earned run average.
