COA Announces
U.S. Bank Student Athletes of the Month

SACRAMENTO, CA . . . The California Community Colleges Commission on Athletics (COA), in partnership with the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) today named Lauren Ervin (Mt. San Antonio College, women's basketball) and Maurice Purify (City College of San Francisco, men's basketball) the COA/U.S. Bank Student Athletes of the Month for March.


Lauren Ervin, a sophomore forward for Mt. San Antonio College, led her team to the 2006 California Community Colleges Commission of Athletics Women's Basketball Championship, Presented by U.S. Bank in Fresno, CA. Under her leadership, the Mounties posted a season record of 36 wins and 2 losses and defeated San Joaquin Delta College, 80-57 to give the Mounties their second state championship in the past three seasons. During the state championship playoffs (3 games) Ervin scored 58 points and collected 29 rebounds. For her efforts, she was named MVP at the conference, regional (so cal) and state championship levels as well as to the 2006 Kodak Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-American Team.


 

Maurice Purify, a two sport standout from the City College of San Francisco, helped lead the Rams to the semi-finals of the 2006 California Community Colleges Commission of Athletics Men's Basketball Championship, Presented by U.S. Bank in Fresno, CA. During the State Championship playoffs (2 games), the sophomore forward scored 25 points and had 16 rebounds. The Nebraska bound star is also one of the top wide receivers in community college football, and led the Rams to the 2005 State Championship game. He was named first team all-state in both sports.
