COA Announces
U.S. Bank Student Athletes of the Month

SACRAMENTO, CA . . . The California Community Colleges Commission on Athletics (COA), in partnership with the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) today named Kyle Hughes (Saddleback College, cross country) and Rebecca Reyes (Cuesta College, cross country) the COA/U.S. Bank Student Athletes of the Month for October.


Kyle Hughes won two of the four races he competed in during October, capturing the Irvine Invitational title ahead of 102 other runners and helping his team to a fourth place finish overall. He ended the month by winning the Orange Empire Conference championship in a field of 68 runners, helping the Gauchos to a third place team finish. Additionally, he finished fifth overall out of 159 runners in the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational and placed seventh overall in a field of 32 NCAA competitors during the Redlands Invitational.


Rebecca Reyes has five top-5 finishes this season, including two during the month of October. At the Western State Conference Preview race on October 7, she finished 3rd in a field of 70 runners to help the Cougars place first as a team. The following weekend she ran in the Cal Poly Invitational, finishing 32nd in a field of 117 NCAA competitors as her team placed 10th. She ended the month by placing fourth overall at the Western State Conference championship on October 25 as the Cougars finished third as a team.
