COA Announces Pepsi/NATYCAA Cup Standings Update;
Fresno City moves into first place with men's basketball championship
SACRAMENTO, CA .
. . The California Community College
Commission on Athletics (COA), in association with the National Alliance of
Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA), has released updated standings
of the 2004-05 Pepsi/NATYCAA Cup, State Associations Division.
Fresno City College (Fresno,
CA) moved into first place following the 2005 California Community Colleges
Commission on Athletics Basketball Championships in San Diego, CA, where the
Rams men's team capped a 34-0 season with a state title. Fresno City now leads
the 2004-05 State Associations Division standings with 112 points. In second
place is Mt. San Antonio College (Walnut, CA) with 101 points. Sierra College
(Rocklin, CA), Orange Coast College (Costa Mesa, CA), and Cerritos College (Norwalk,
CA) round-out the top-five. Complete standings and scoring criteria are posted
on the COA Web site, www.coasports.org.
A college is awarded points
based on its teams' final positions in postconference competition. Each college's
top-five men's and top-five women's team results count toward the school's overall
point total. Final standings will be announced on May 31, 2005.
NATYCAA is the professional
organization of two-year college athletic administrators and membership is open
to all two-year institutions from throughout the country. The Pepsi NATYCAA
Awards were designed to recognize and reward overall program excellence at the
two-year college level. The criteria for the State Associations division were
developed by the COA in conjunction with the California Community College Sports
Information Association (CCCSIA). This is the second year that NATYCAA has sponsored
a State Associations division. Sierra College captured the inaugural award in
2003-04.
The 2004-05 winners will
be recognized at the Pepsi/NATYCAA Awards Luncheon, held during the 2005 NATYCAA
Convention, June 14-15 at the Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
Awards will be presented to the top three colleges, and the top twenty schools
in the division will receive recognition.
