COA Announces Pepsi/NATYCAA Cup Standings;
Mt. San Antonio and Fresno City lead race heading into spring season
SACRAMENTO, CA .
. . The California Community College Commission on Athletics (COA), in association with the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA), has released the fall standings of the 2004-05 Pepsi/NATYCAA Cup, State Associations Division.
Mt. San Antonio College (Walnut, CA) leads the 2004-05 State Associations Division standings with 92.5 points, followed closely by Fresno City College (Fresno, CA) with 92 points. Orange Coast College (Costa Mesa, CA), Sierra College (Rocklin, CA) and Cerritos College (Norwalk, CA) round-out the top-five. Complete standings and scoring criteria are posted on the COA Web site, www.coasports.org.
A college is awarded points based on its teams’ final positions in post-conference competition. Each college’s top-five men’s and top-five women’s team results count toward the school’s overall point total. Final standings will be announced on May 31, 2005.
NATYCAA is the professional organization of two-year college athletic administrators and membership is open to all two-year institutions from throughout the country. The Pepsi NATYCAA Awards were designed to recognize and reward overall program excellence at the two-year college level. The criteria for the State Associations division were developed by the COA in conjunction with the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA). This is the second year that NATYCAA has sponsored a State Associations division. Sierra College captured the inaugural award in 2003-04.
The 2004-05 winners will be recognized at the Pepsi/NATYCAA Awards Luncheon, during the 2005 NATYCAA Convention, June 14-15 at the Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Awards will be presented to the top three colleges, and the top twenty schools in the division will receive recognition.
