Sierra College Wins 2003-04 Pepsi/NATYCAA Cup

SACRAMENTO, CA . . . The California Community College Commission on Athletics (COA), in association with the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) today released the final standings of the 2003-04 Pepsi/NATYCAA Cup, State Associations Division.

Sierra College, located in Rocklin, CA, topped the final standings with score of 159.5 points. Finishing second was Mt. San Antonio College (155 points), followed by Long Beach City College (135.5 points). Rounding-out the top ten are Santa Rosa Jr. College, Ventura College, Orange Coast College, Diablo Valley College, Golden West College, American River College and Saddleback College.

The award recognizes overall athletic excellence, and is modeled after the NACDA Director’s Cup Award. The criteria for the State Associations Division were developed by the COA in conjunction with the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA). This is the first year that NATYCAA has sponsored a State Associations Division.

A college is awarded points based on its teams' final positions in post-conference competition. Each college’s top-five men’s sports and top-five women’s sports scores count toward the school’s overall point total.

The 2003-04 winners will be recognized at the Pepsi/NATYCAA Awards Luncheon at the NATYCAA Convention, June 11 at the Wyndham Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas. Awards will be presented to the top three colleges, and the top 20 schools in the division will receive recognition.

Complete standings, scoring criteria and a description of the point system are posted on the COA website at www.coasports.org/natycaacup.
