COA and Citi Announce Title Agreement

SACRAMENTO, CA . . . The California Community College Commission on Athletics (COA) today announced a title agreement with Citi, the credit card division of Citigroup, based in Long Island City, NY. As part of the agreement, Citi will be designated as the “Exclusive Credit Card Provider” of the COA and California Community Colleges athletics through calendar year 2004.

As title partner of the COA, the Citi name will be included in the official title of all COA state championship events. Citi will have a cause-related presence at 17 COA state championships in Spring and Fall 2004, including title designation, onsite signage, print ads, product displays and public address announcements. Citi will also receive prominent visibility on the official COA website, www.coasports.org, various print collaborations, public education pieces, and a series of local campus events promoting credit education to the system’s 2.9 million students.

“This is an exciting time for the COA’s business enterprise. Citi’s title agreement with the COA is another step in the continued maturation of our statewide program and their presence enhances our continuing efforts,” said COA Associate Commissioner Stuart Van Horn. “During the last six months, we’ve been fortunate to add several premier entities to our partnership program and we believe a key reason is our commitment to servicing them aggressively to ensure renewal” he said. Citi joins Office Depot, Northwestern Mutual, and Del Costa Cheese as new COA partners in 2003-04.

Amer Sajed, Senior Vice President, at Citi, says ”this provides a unique opportunity for Citi to get its responsible use of credit message directly to the students while having a dialogue with them on their campus.”

Other COA partners include Blue Diamond, BuzzOnCampus, Diamond Sports, Renaissance Agencies, Inc., Russell Athletic, California Track and Engineering, Choice Hotels, Pepsi, FieldTurf and Herff Jones. In addition, the COA has contracts with nearly one dozen ball and equipment agencies via adoption contracts for specific COA championships.

For more information about the COA’s corporate partnership program, please contact the COA at 916.444.1600 and request a copy of the CD-ROM describing the program or email the COA development office at Svanhorn@coasports.org.
