Jan Furman
Jan Furman was the individual who introduced the concept of honoring the successes of our teams, coaches and student-athletes at a state banquet. Jan presided over the inaugural banquet in 1994.

Jan Furman, an inspirational and dynamic leader, coached women’s volleyball at Cabrillo College from 1988-1999. In her 12 years as head coach, she compiled an impressive 144-68 overall record and a 90-36 record in the Coast Conference. During Jan’s tenure as head coach, the Seahawks won 4 Coast Conference Championships. Cabrillo participated in 9 Regional playoffs and 8 State Championships advancing to the Final Four in 1989 and1997.

Jan served as President of the California Community College Women’s Volleyball Coaches Association for two terms between 1988 and 1995. Under her leadership, the CCCWVCA thrived and became one of the most respected coaches associations in the state.

Throughout her career, Jan has selflessly offered instructional clinics to players of all levels and abilities. In addition, she has shared her coaching expertise at motivational coaching clinics throughout the state, most notably at the Davis Volleyball Festival, the Cal Poly Workshop for Physical Educators and at the California Association of Health, Physical Education and Recreation state conference. Jan is currently mentoring coaches as the Director of the newly formed Main Beach Volleyball Club in Santa Cruz. Her passion and commitment to the sport of volleyball serves as a shining example, that one coach with a generous heart can make a phenomenal difference.
