Jan
Furman was the individual who introduced the concept of honoring the successes
of our teams, coaches and student-athletes at a state banquet. Jan presided
over the inaugural banquet in 1994.
Jan Furman, an inspirational
and dynamic leader, coached womens volleyball at Cabrillo College
from 1988-1999. In her 12 years as head coach, she compiled an impressive
144-68 overall record and a 90-36 record in the Coast Conference. During
Jans tenure as head coach, the Seahawks won 4 Coast Conference Championships.
Cabrillo participated in 9 Regional playoffs and 8 State Championships
advancing to the Final Four in 1989 and1997.
Jan served as President
of the California Community College Womens Volleyball Coaches Association
for two terms between 1988 and 1995. Under her leadership, the CCCWVCA
thrived and became one of the most respected coaches associations in the
state.
Throughout her career,
Jan has selflessly offered instructional clinics to players of all levels
and abilities. In addition, she has shared her coaching expertise at motivational
coaching clinics throughout the state, most notably at the Davis Volleyball
Festival, the Cal Poly Workshop for Physical Educators and at the California
Association of Health, Physical Education and Recreation state conference.
Jan is currently mentoring coaches as the Director of the newly formed
Main Beach Volleyball Club in Santa Cruz. Her passion and commitment to
the sport of volleyball serves as a shining example, that one coach with
a generous heart can make a phenomenal difference.
