Ann Terheggen-Selsky
Lou Ann Terheggen-Selsky led the Golden West College volleyball program
during its formative years as she built what has become the finest community
college program in the state of California.
Terheggen-Selsky coached
the Rustler women from their initial year of competition in 1975 until
1982. During that period, Golden West posted an overall record of 99-15,
winning the first of the schools' 11 state championships in 1979.
She also coached the
Rustler men's team from 1977-1983 with a record of 89-57, never finishing
below third place in the conference, before stepping up to become the
Golden West Athletic Director in 1983.
Terheggen-Selsky also
enjoyed an outstanding career as a player. She played on a state championship
team at El Camino College and a national championship team at Long Beach
State and is a member of both school's Hall of Fame. She also played on
the US Pan American Games trials team in 1971 and represented the United
States in the 1973 World University Games before playing Wilt Chamberlain's
"Little Dippers." She returned to the World University Games
in 1977 as an assistant coach for the US team. For the past six years,
she has been the head coach of the Manhattan Hot Shots, and has led them
to a bronze medal at the Junior Olympics.
Terheggen-Selsky resides
in Manhattan Beach with husband Steve and their four children.
