Ann Heck
A pioneer in women's volleyball, Ann Heck's career parallels many of the developments in the sport. A tennis champion during high school and college, Heck got involved in volleyball in the 1960's. Heck attended UC Santa Barbara and earned a BA in Physical Education in 1964. After teaching at Carlmont High School in Belmont, Ca, Heck earned her MA in Physical Education from the University of Southern California in 1967. Heck then taught at Corona Del Mar High School and Long Beach State University. At Long Beach, Heck coached the women's tennis team and the women's volleyball team that took 2nd place in 1971 & 1972 in the AIAW National Championships. While co-authoring Volleyball for Coaches and Teachers (1971), Heck was the Women's Athletic Director (1970-1972). Heck even extended her career to include international coaching in Moscow, Russia.

Heck currently teaches at San Diego Mesa College. Heck coached the women's volleyball team from 1976-1997 and won seven conference titles, going to the State Tournament twice. In her 22 years at San Diego Mesa, Heck received the Pacific Coast Conference "Coach of the Year" for volleyball eight times and "Coach of the Year" for all Women's Sports three times. Heck is the Assistant Athletic Director at San Diego Mesa College.

Lou Ann Terheggen-Selsky

Lou Ann Terheggen-Selsky led the Golden West College volleyball program during its formative years as she built what has become the finest community college program in the state of California.

Terheggen-Selsky coached the Rustler women from their initial year of competition in 1975 until 1982. During that period, Golden West posted an overall record of 99-15, winning the first of the schools' 11 state championships in 1979.

She also coached the Rustler men's team from 1977-1983 with a record of 89-57, never finishing below third place in the conference, before stepping up to become the Golden West Athletic Director in 1983.

Terheggen-Selsky also enjoyed an outstanding career as a player. She played on a state championship team at El Camino College and a national championship team at Long Beach State and is a member of both school's Hall of Fame. She also played on the US Pan American Games trials team in 1971 and represented the United States in the 1973 World University Games before playing Wilt Chamberlain's "Little Dippers." She returned to the World University Games in 1977 as an assistant coach for the US team. For the past six years, she has been the head coach of the Manhattan Hot Shots, and has led them to a bronze medal at the Junior Olympics.

Terheggen-Selsky resides in Manhattan Beach with husband Steve and their four children.
