1998 Inductees

Shirley Gustafson
Shirley Gustafson has been called a "Pioneer" and she has lived up to that title by being the first women's coach inducted into the Tiger Athletic Hall of Fame at Reedley College.

During her 22-year tenure as head volleyball coach at Kings River Community College, Shirley "Gus" Gustafson established a tradition of commitment and excellence. Her dedication translated into eight conference championships, twelve appearances in the Northern California Regional Playoffs and four in the State Championships.

Retiring from Kings River Community College in 1996, Gustafson built one of the State's premiere volleyball programs with a career record of 302-108.

Gustafson currently participates in athletic fundraising activities and she helps announce at some of the Tiger volleyball matches. She resides in Kingsburg with her husband Duane.


Gene Hofer
In fifteen years Gene Hofer has shown his dedication to volleyball and women's athletics. Hofer was the head coach for the College of Sequoias women's volleyball team from 1976 to 1990. He has been chosen as an inductee to the CCCWVCA Hall of Fame for his excellence and hard work coaching women's volleyball.

In the 15 years Hofer spent as head coach at COS, he took his team to twelve conference championships, two second place finishes, and one third place finish. Posting a 139-19 Conference record, Hofer earned six Northern California Titles and two Second place finishes in the State Tournament.

Hofer started his coaching career at COS in 1966 as the Track and Field coach and continues even now to teach in the Physical Education Department. Hofer is an avid golfer and is currently a member of the Visalia Country Club.
