Betty
Crilley
For
19 years Betty taught and coached all four Viking women's sports, including
Volleyball. In 1974, part-time coaches were hired for the other sports.
She became the first
women Athletic Director at Long Beach City College. As such, she enlarged
the women's sports program, was a strong advocate for women's athletics,
and was supportive of women coaches.
Betty retired in 1986
and died of cancer in 1993. She was one of the true "pioneers"
of women's athletics.

Jane Hilgendorf
Jane
coached Orange Coast College Women's Volleyball since 1972 and was co-ed
Volleyball Team Coach 1971-77. She was named California Community College
"Coach of the Year" in 1978 by the California Coaches Association.
She was also the South Coast Conference "Coach of the Year"
in 1980, 1981, and 1982. She served as the President of the California
Community College Volleyball Association.
She is also a health
and physical education instructor who is sought after to run volleyball
clinics for players and for coaches. Her overall Women's Volleyball record
at Orange Coast College is 116-26.

Marty Orner
Marty
taught at Fullerton College for 32 years, coached co-ed volleyball for
13 years, and coached women's volleyball for 11 years.
She served as the
NAGWS Women's Volleyball National Rules interpreter from 1974-84. She
officiated at and served as head official at every AIAW Collegiate Volleyball
National Championship from 1972-83. She was the NAGWS Director on the
USVBA Board of Directors from 1980-88.
She retired in June
of 1994.

Nancy Warren
For
thirty years Nancy taught classes and coached at Rancho Santiago College.
In Women's Volleyball she won 2 State Titles, 1 Regional Title, and 1
National Junior College Title (in 1976 with a 49-0 record). She co-founded
the 1st State Volleyball Coaches Association. She was chosen California
Coaches Association Community College Volleyball Coach of the Year in
1977.
Nancy hosts a 25-team
tournament each year since 1976 (three states have been represented).
She retired from coaching in 1987 and became Physical Education Coordinator.

JoAnn
Zwanziger
JoAnn
started her teaching career at Pasadena City College in 1969. She coached
the Pasadena City College Women's Volleyball team from 1969-79, and the
co-ed team from 1971-76. She was the Athletic Director from 1973-86. She
served as the President of Southern California Community College Intercollegiate
Athletic Council in 1976, the Treasurer in 1974, and Conference Representative
from 1971-73.
JoAnn served on the
Commission on Athletics Interim Committee that wrote the new rules to
bring men and women under the same organization. This brought about the
first opportunity for women to have a State Tournament. She was also on
the Commission on Athletics and served as chairperson of the State Play-off
Committee from 1983-86.
