Posted on: May 9 2000 4:24PM

News Release: May 8, 2000

The Hyundai-California Community College Men's and Women's Tennis State Championships will be held this week at the Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club in Newport Beach.

The best men's and women's teams in the state will square off on Thursday, May 11, beginning at noon to determine the team titles. The 16 top singles players and doubles teams will begin the elimination process on Friday, May 12, at 8:45 a.m.

The Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club is graciously serving as host for this week's event. Established in 1962, the club features 24 hard-surface courts - including 16 lighted courts - and a well-stocked pro shop.

In addition to this week's state tournament, the club also hosts a Senior and Junior tournament each year which is sanctioned by the United States Tennis Association (USTA). The 1200-member club features a Junior Academy for players ranging from four-year-olds up through ranked players, league tennis for its members, and a full schedule of social events.

Located on Pacific Coast Highway, the club is conveniently accessible for travelers on the 405 freeway. Exiting at Jamboree and heading west towards the ocean, the club is a short drive south of the intersection of Jamboree and Pacific Coast Highway.
