FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NAVE WINS GOLF
TITLE, LEADS MOUNTIES TO TEAM TITLE
Only three community college
golfers broke 80 during the first round of the Citi California Community College
Commission on Athletics State Women's Golf Championship on Monday, and only
four broke the 80 barrier during the second round on Tuesday. Mt. San Antonio's
Amanda Nave posted the lowest individual score each day, finishing with a 36-hole
total of 145 (73, 72) on the par 72 course to win the individual title.
Nave's even-par round on the final day was nearly matched by teammate Nina Rodriguez,
who fired a 73 on Tuesday after an 80 on the opening day. Rodriguez' two-day
total of 153 was good enough for individual runner-up honors and helped Mt.
San Antonio run away with the team title. Lisa Bagley (80, 75) of Foothill College
and Kierstan Capito (77, 79) of Santa Barbara City College were in the hunt
for individual runner-up honors with Rodriguez. Jeehee Hwang of Mt. San Antonio
finished fifth with a 161 (81, 80) and Autumn Alford of College of the Desert
placed sixth at 162 (81, 81).
Nave, Rodriguez, and Hwang didn't need much help in order for the Mounties to
capture the team title. Kate Jinawanit provided the deciding blow with a two-day
total of 176 (88, 88) to give Mt. San Antonio a team score of 635. College of
the Desert finished second at 663 and Fresno City College placed third at 695
while Sierra placed fourth at 744.
The top six individuals - Nave, Rodriguez, Bagley, Capito, Hwang, and Alford
- each earn All-State recognition.
