FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NAVE LEADS WOMEN'S GOLF STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT

Mt. San Antonio's Amanda Nave is the individual leader of the Citi California Community College State Women's Golf Championship being held at the Navy Golf Course in Cypress.

Nave carded a 1-over-par 73 to hold a four stroke lead over Santa Barbara City College's Kierstan Capito (77) and a six stroke lead over Alissa Kubochi of Sacramento City College (79). Those were the only three golfers to break 80 on a warm Southern California day where the temperature hovered around those scores. Lisa Bagley (Foothill College), Nadine Elliott (College of the Desert), and Nina Rodriguez (Mt. San Antonio College) each fired 80's.

In the team standings, Mt. San Antonio (322) took a comfortable 11 stroke lead over College of the Desert (333) while Fresno City College (349) and Sierra College (369) are way back. In addition to Nave and Rodriguez, the Mounties were able to count Jeehee Hwang's 81 and Kate Jinawanit's 88 toward the team score. Desert also had four golfers turn in scores under 90, using Autumn Alford's 81, Shannon Dennehy's 84, and Sue Sims' 88.

The second round of the two-day, 36-hole event will continue Tuesday morning at the Navy Golf Course.
