CCCWBCA Poll Unchanged for Top 9

[ Poll, Week of 1/19/04 ]

The CCCWBCA Poll this week only had one change in the top 10, Fullerton College which improved to #10. South Coast Conference North Division rivals Mt. San Antonio College (21-1) and undefeated Pasadena City College
(17-0) occupy the top two for the second consecutive week. Ventura (15-3) Contra Costa College (17-2) and Sierra College (15-1) hold the next three positions.

Mt. San Antonio found competition at #19 Compton Community College. The 67-56 North Division opener is their closest score of 2004. Pasadena had an easier time in an interdivisional with #14 Cerritos College, 87-68. Cerritos dropped to #16 and Compton finds themselves at #20. Cerritos bounced back to share the early South Division lead, 92-47 over L.A. Southwest College. El Camino College is tied with Cerritos at 1-0.

Ventura enjoyed a bye and cruised through Santa Maria with a 106-58 nod at Allan Hancock College. That got them into a tie for the Western State Conference North Division lead at 3-0 with Moorpark College. Moorpark climbed to #18 after an important road win versus Santa Barbara. #1 Mt. San Antonio's only loss of the season was at Moorpark. In South Division action, #7 Canyons established themselves in a solo lead after an 87-46 victory over Citrus on Friday. Los Angeles Valley College is half a game behind.

Contra Costa and #12 Santa Rosa Junior College are 4-0 atop Bay Valley Conference Bay Division. Contra Costa knocked Merritt College out of the lead on Friday, 75-43. Sierra and #9 San Joaquin Delta College along with unranked Sacramento City College are 3-0 in Valley Division. Napa Valley College gave scares to Sierra on Tuesday, 65-54, and Delta on Friday, 82-71.

Central Valley Conference has three state-ranked colleges, but it is unranked Porterville atop the standings. Taking advantage of an easier schedule, a 67-51 upset of #17 Fresno, and upsets amongst the ranked puts them at 2-0, the only undefeated team. Sequoias joined the Wednesday upset party with a 66-59 home win over #6 Merced College. In the North Region Game of the Week, Merced saved their ranking by going into overtime against #8 Reedley College and worked to a 64-58 decision on Saturday.

#11 Fullerton hosted #10 Saddleback in the South Region Game of the Week on Wednesday. Fullerton scored 76 to Saddleback's 73. Orange Coast and Cypress College wins created a five-way tie for the lead with those squads and Golden West, all at 2-1 in Orange Empire Conference. Saddleback lost an 82-78 double-overtime heartbreaker to Orange Coast on Friday to fall out of the lead and out of the top 10. Cypress and Fullerton stayed in the tie for the lead after getting their own victories.

Golden Valley Conference finished the first of three rounds on Saturday. Butte College remained perfect at 5-0 and jumped to #13. Lassen College is a game behind. Shasta College took third place at Siskiyous, 80-77 in overtime on Saturday.

Pacific Coast Conference began their double round-robin on Saturday. Palomar, Southwestern and Imperial Valley colleges won their openers. Palomar had the narrowest margin, 65-59 over San Diego Mesa College.

The warmup for Coast Conference ended last week with one ranked team in each division. #15 City College of San Francisco leads North Division and Ohlone College nabbed the #17 slot to represent the South.

North Region Game of the Week:
#9 San Joaquin Delta drives to Rocklin to break the BVC Valley division tie with #5 Sierra, Tuesday, January 20, at 6:00 pm.

South Region Game of the Week:
On Friday, January 23, #20 Compton will try to ruin at #2 Pasadena's undefeated season, 5:30 pm.
