2001 Hyundai-California Community College Softball Championships

DAY TWO, May 12

Long Beach Advances To State Title Game

Long Beach beat Santa Ana, 1-0, Saturday night at Bulldog Diamond in Fresno, to advance to the 2001 Hyundai-California Community College Softball Championship title game.

Viking All-American pitcher Nina Distefano scattered five hits over seven innings to earn her third shutout victory of the state championships.

Julie Jaime went 2 for 3, and scored the only run of the game in the fifth inning.

Long Beach, state runners-up last season, will play the Santa Ana-Sacramento winner (10 am) on Sunday. The championship game is scheduled for 12 noon at Bulldog Diamond, with a 2 pm game if necessary.
