1998 Pepsi Scholar Athletes
Aileen
Bennett , Orange Coast College
Bennett participated
in swimming and water polo at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa. She
maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA during her two years at OCC. She was selected
as an All-American in three swimming events as was captain of the water
polo team which finished second in the state women's water polo championships
last year. She was named to the Orange Empire Conference All-Conference
team and All southern California teams during her sophomore year. As a
full-time student, Bennett also found time to work 12-15 hours each week.
Charles
Cooke, Antelope Valley College
Cooke played
baseball at Antelope Valley and maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA during his
two-years at AVC. Cooke was a pitcher for AVC as a freshman before suffering
a serious season-ending injury. He returned as a sophomore and played
first base and was a designated hitter. He made only one error all season
and had a .489 slugging percentage. He was valedictorian at his high school
and is a life member of the California Scholarship Federation. He volunteers
with the local Lion's Club and Lancaster youth baseball and transferred
to University of California-San Diego to continue is academic and athletic
career.
