A Letter from SCOPE President Diane Henry:

Dear SCOPE Members,

I am very concerned over the news about the number of Kinesiology departments which have folded both at the UC's and CSU's. Although there are numerous reasons why Kinesiology departments are declining, one contributing factor in all cases seems to be the lack of unity within departments, and within the field as a whole, along with a lack of understanding about who we are and what we do.

  • 2006-07 SCOPE Goals:
    -Continue to raise funds to promote California Community College Physical Education so we can identify and support or oppose new legislation in the California legislature where we continue to be misunderstood and singled out for poor legislation
    -Continue to improve our membership so we can become a larger voice in the governance of the State
    -Submit a revision recommending changes in the Disciplines List for Minimum Qualifications for faculty hired in Physical Education
    -Create opportunities to hold meetings and workshops addressing critical issues in physical education
