Twelve athletes from the state's top aquatics program have signed with four-year universities, Golden West College Coach John Wright announced. The Rustlers won the men's and women's state swimming and diving titles last spring and took the women's water polo state crown and the runner-up trophy in men's water polo last fall.
Kirsten Rich, the national community college record holder in the 50-yard freestyle (23.25) and state record holder in the 100 freestyle (51.59), will attend the University of Southern Califonia. Rich won both freestyle sprints as well as the 50 butterfly at last May's Hyundai California Community College Women's Swimming Championship.
Alyson Edoff, thereigning state champion in the 200 freestyle, has committed to DruryCollege in Springfield, MO, Wright reported.
Also on the women's side, Chelsea Rowlands, the leading scorer for the Rustler women's water polo team, is headed for Cal State Long Beach. Rowlands was named Southern California co-MVP while leading the Rustlers to a 33-2-1 record.
Christian Harcsas, who set a national community college record in winning the 200 backstroke (1:46.14) at the State Championship in May, is headed for Arizona State University. Harcsas also won the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley.
Danny Johnson, an All-American choice in water polo and the state champion in the 200 freestyle in swimming, is heading to the University of the Pacific.
