Orange Coast guard/forward Erin Tomlinson (Bakersfield/Stockdale High School) has earned a scholarship to continue her basketball career at UC Irvine this fall, Pirate coach Mike Thornton announced today.
The 5-10 Tomlinson was a first-team all-Orange Empire Conference player as a freshman and was third on the Pirates in rebounds (6.5 per game) and second in assists (3.2) while averaging 9.8 ppg. as a sophomore.
Tomlinson considered playing for Long Beach State as a walk-on.
"I think this is a good fit for her. She can play three positions, but they're going to use her as a point guard," Thornton said. "It's a good opportunity and it's a much better situation for her than walking on at Long Beach State."
Tomlinson is the second member of last year's 27-6 Pirate squad to accept a scholarship. Sophomore guard Leah Wilde has transferred to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
