COA ANNOUNCES CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS TO BE TELEVISED

Sacramento, CA--The California Community College Commission on Athletics is delighted to announce the championship events to be televised this spring.

The Hyundai men's and women's basketball championships will be aired from Stockton's UOP Spanos Center on Saturday, March 10th and the Hyundai men's and women's state track and field championships will be shown on Saturday, May 19th from Beaver Stadium at American River College in Sacramento.

In December, Fox Sports Net Bay Area and Fox Sports West 2 televised the 2000 Hyundai California Community College Football State Championship from Visalia's Mineral King Bowl. The game reached 1.2 million viewers live with DirecTV still to report their ratings.

The California Community College State Championship Television Network started in 1999-2000 and is sanctioned and funded by the Commission on Athletics.

The network consists of 35 commercial, non-commercial, PBS and cable stations from Redding to San Diego.

"This is very exciting and an important project for the COA," said Stu Van Horn, COA associate commissioner. "This will continue to enhance the image and visibility of intercollegiate athletics at California's community colleges. There is nothing like the legitimacy of a telecast to brand community college athletics to corporate America."

Among the television entities in the state that have signed on are Bay TV, Peninsula TV, MediaOne, MediaOne, Access Sacramento, Cable One, AT&T Cable Services, Charter Communications and Cox Communications among others.

VIMA Productions of San Jose produces all of the telecasts for the California Community College Commission on Athletics Championship Television Network.
