Orange Coast at the end of the third quarter, but then the scoring stopped.
Orange Coast scored two fourth quarter goals to send the game into overtime
and kept pouring it on to take a 9-7 lead in overtime. The Pirates two goal
lead in overtime was their first lead of the game, but it wouldn't last too
long. The Vikings ended their 14 minute scoring draught with Boll's sixth goal
of the game to bring Diablo Valley back within one. Kelly McCabe's buzzer beater
tied the game back up and forced a sudden death period. Diablo Valley continued
it coring spurt with their third goal in two minutes when Jenna Cassidy netted

Game Notes-The Blue Devils lost leading scorer Kristi Ferraro to foul trouble
with two minutes left in the first half and never had a chance the rest of the
way against the top-ranked Riverside Tigers. Riverside improved its record to
33-1 and increased its winning streak to 23 consecutive games. Each of the Tigers'
starters scored in the game in a balanced attack that doesn't allow any quarter
to their opponents. The Tigers stifling defense also starred to goalies, Emily
Fardig and Gloria Doran, who helped lead the defense to a near shut out.

and Natasha Bustard both scored in the opening minutes, but a pair of goals
by Blair Davidson evened the score by the end of the first period. Orange Coast
would score only one more goal as Long Beach started hitting its outside shots
and pulling the game out of reach.

Game Notes-Two-time defending State Champion set up its title defense by beating
the top seed from Northern California, Diablo Valley, 7-3. Long Beach languished
in the rankings behind Riverside, Fullerton and, Orange Coast for most of the
season, but they will still play for their third straight title tomorrow. Diablo
Valley upset Orange Coast earlier in the day and appeared to be ready to become
only the second team in ten years to make the title game from the Northern California
Region, but for the tenth straight year the title will reside in the south.

take their first step towards a third straight title. Brett Garrett led the
Vikings with four goals in a game that was still tied with a minute left in
the third quarter. West Valley scored twice in that final minute to take a two
goal lead and never looked back, as Cerritos pulled back to 12-10 with five

to 7-4, but Golden West ran off the next seven goals to blow the game open.

one-sided.

Game Notes-Two-time defending State Champion West Valley's reign came to an
end today in the most heartbreaking and cruel ways. After winning a hard fought
game in the morning against Cerritos, Cerritos forfeited its game against Long
Beach allowing Long Beach to be rested and fresh for their semi-final against
the tired and worn champs. The two teams squared off for a seven-goal first
quarter that gave Long Beach and by halftime that lead had doubled to 6-4. Long
Beach maintained its two goal lead until Brett Garrett scored on a fast break,
just a minute and half after Joey Balczer had pulled them within one, to tie
the game with :27 left in regulation. However Long Beach had one more trick
up its sleeve and South Coast Conference MVP Miljan Colovic hit a 12-meter shot
with three seconds left to win the game and send Long Beach to the title game.
Long Beach will be searching for its first title since 1988.

Game Notes-Golden West beat Diablo Valley in the final game of the day to send
them selves back to the title game. The Rustlers have lost the past two State
Championship Games to West Valley, but the Vikings were eliminated today. Tomorrow
the Rustlers will face Long Beach City tomorrow for the title. The two teams
have split four games this year, however Golden West got the better of their
foe last week to win the Southern California Regional Playoffs last weekend
to earn the top seed here today.
