Game Notes-Two-time defending State Champion West Valley's reign came to an end today in the most heartbreaking and cruel ways. After winning a hard fought game in the morning against Cerritos, Cerritos forfeited its game against Long Beach allowing Long Beach to be rested and fresh for their semi-final against the tired and worn champs. The two teams squared off for a seven-goal first quarter that gave Long Beach and by halftime that lead had doubled to 6-4. Long Beach maintained its two goal lead until Brett Garrett scored on a fast break, just a minute and half after Joey Balczer had pulled them within one, to tie the game with :27 left in regulation. However Long Beach had one more trick up its sleeve and South Coast Conference MVP Miljan Colovic hit a 12-meter shot with three seconds left to win the game and send Long Beach to the title game. Long Beach will be searching for its first title since 1988.
