The Golden West Rustlers
took their first step towards their sixth State Title by knocking off the Northern
Regions top team Sierra. The Rustlers took 2-0 lead over on first quarter
goals by Jessica Marr and Julie Zaborowski and those two goals were the difference
at the half. The Wolverines scored first after the intermission to narrow the
gap to one, but the Rustlers did the rest of the scoring and took home a 5-1
win.

Defending State Champion
Long Beach won its first round game against Diablo Valley without much trouble.
The Vikings ran out to a 3-0 thanks to two quick goals by 2004 SoCal MVP Melissa
Soria. Diablo Valley couldnt match up with Long Beachs size and
did not earn a single 6-on-5 power play all game, while Long Beach drew seven.
Soria ended the game with three goals and was the only player to score multiple
times in the contest. The Vikings are now one step closer to winning their second
State Title.

Golden West College began
the weekend as the third seed from the Southern California Region, but with
a 5-2 win over Riverside they clinched a spot in the State Title Game at Noon
on Saturday. The Rustlers held the Tigers scoreless in the first half and controlled
the pace the whole game. The Tigers closed the gap to 3-2 early in the fourth
quarter, but with Golden West forcing a frontcourt game and shutting down the
fast break they couldnt complete the comeback. Riverside began the season
with a 24-0 record, but they saw their hopes for the programs first title
fade after losing five of their last eight games. The Rustlers will be going
for the schools sixth State Title.

play. The Vikings took the game when Jenna Boll scored with :20 left in the

Riverside rallied in its
final game of the year to end the season with a win. The Tigers had been the
early favorite for the State Title after winning their first 24 games, but they
had dropped five of their last eight games heading into tonights game
with the Norths top team, Sierra. After the first six minutes of play
the score was tied at two and then Katherine Inglett scored her second goal
of the quarter to give the Tigers a lead they would not relinquish. Inglett
ended the game with a team-high five goals in the 9-3 win.

Long Beach moved into the 2004 title game in impressive form. The Vikings shutout
Foothill for a 10-0 win and a chance to become only the second program in State
History to have two State Titles in the books. Of course, the Vikings opponents
in tomorrows title game is the only school to have won more than one title.
The Rustlers have six titles in the nine year history of womens water
polo.

Vikings stayed close all game. Long Beach held leads of 3-1 and 4-2 in the first
half, but West Valley was still down only 4-3 at the half. West Valleys
Stephen Ward scored his first two goals in the final two minutes to give his
squad an 8-6 lead with a minute left in the contest. Long Beach earned a kick-out
with :30 left and Matt Bischel pulled the game within one goal, but West Valley
was able to run out the remaining time on the clock for the win.

Top-seeded Golden West cruised
through its first game of the tournament in a 13-2 win over Solano. The Rustlers
rushed out to a 8-0 lead before the Falcons Tyson Frenn drew and scored consecutive
penalty throws to get his team on the board and close the gap to 8-2 halfway
through the third quarter. The Falcons didnt score after that as the Rustlers
had five different players score the next five goals to clinch the victory.

Long Beach and Cerritos
split four games this season, with Cerritos winning the last two, but the rubber
match was little bit of everything. Familiarity did not breed friendship as
there were 23 ejection fouls called and one game major. The score was tied 3-3
with 1:17 left in first half when the Vikings goalie Matt Evink was ejected
for throwing a punch at Cerritos Richard Caldwell, who had just evened
the game. Evink did not miss any game time because the foul came after the goal.
