College of the Desert Men and Santa Barbara City College Women Crowned at Hyundai California Community College
Tennis Championships Presented by Wilson

 

 

Sacramento, CA . . . College of the Desert captured it’s fourth consecutive team championship as it defeated Fresno City College by a 5-0 score this morning in the Hyundai California Community College Men’s Tennis Team Championship at American River College.  Santa Barbara City College captured the Women’s title with a 5-0 defeat of Santa Rosa Junior College.

 

With College of the Desert leading 4-0, No. 1 Singles player Rodrigo Grilli defeated Fresno’s Hector Almada 6-1 and 6-4 to seal the victory.  The College of the Desert men have won seven of the last ten California Community College Tennis championships.

 

         The Women’s Team Championship wrapped-up in similar fashion, as Santa Barbara’s No. 1 Singles player Kinsley Carnahan defeated Tarrin Dougery 3-6, 6-4 and 6-4 to clinch a 5-0 victory for the Vaqueros.  It is the first state championship in Santa Barbara City College history. 

 

         Individual singles and doubles first round action will begin tomorrow, May 11th at 9:00 a.m. at the Broadstone Racquet Club in Folsom, CA.  The singles and doubles championship will be held at the Broadstone on Saturday May 12th at 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively.
