TEAM RESULTS
College of the Desert men
and Orange Coast College women won California Community College dual team championships
at Copper River Country Club in Fresno today.
On the men's side, COD defeated
defending champion Fresno City College 5-2 for its seventh title in the last
eight years and the school s 10th overall. The Roadrunners won four of the six
singles matches and needed one of the three doubles matches for the win. COD
s Jack Hui won in the No. 1 singles match 6-1,6-0 over Fresno City s Daniel
Ndela. The doubles tandem of Carlos Catalan and Felipe Villasenor gave COD an
insurmountable lead with their 6-4, 6-4 victory over the Rams Kyle Kropf and
Steve Sheldon.
On the women's side, Orange
Coast won its first title since 1994 with a 5-0 win over Sierra College. OCC
swept the first five singles matches, eliminating the necessity of the double
matches. Michelle Esquicel won the No. 1 singles match over Jenny Sperry 6-4,
6-4.
