NOTES: #1 ranked Ventura College took over first place in the standing when Sophomore All American Cheyne O'Gorman won the 100 butterfly. O'Gorman was the 2004 State 50 Free Champion and won that event again on the first day of the meet and he is recognized as the best sprint freestyler in the State. Last week at the Western State Conference Championships, O'Gorman won three freestyle events, but Ventura Coach Larry Baratte took a chance to score some more points in the butterfly and O'Gorman made it pay off. O'Gorman can help Baratte and Ventura win its first State Title in swimming and diving. The Pirates also helped themselves in the 100 backstroke when 2004 State Champion Nate Isbell was clipped at the wire by his teammate Brett Todd for a 1-2 finish. Defending State Champion Golden west fell into second place, but with more freestyle events slated for tomorrow they should have a chance to close the gap on Ventura and make a run for the program's 14th State Title.
