Men's and Women's Swim and Dive Championships
GOLDEN WEST HOLDS TOP SPOT AFTER DAY ONE
New National Record Set
Suisun, CA--After the first day of events at the 2001 California Community College Swim and Dive Championships, powerhouse Golden West College leads in both the men's (134 points) and women's (171 points) team competition. In all, the Rustlers claimed six events. In the women's 500 yard freestyle, Golden West's Micha Burden re-wrote both the state and national records with a time of 4:53.01. The previous national record, set in 1983 by Gwen Cross was 4:53.48.
Diablo Valley College is the top team from the north in both the men's and women's teams scores, holding the third spot in both categories with scores of 97 points and 104 points, respectively.
The state championship meet will resume, Friday (5/4) at 10:00am and continue through Saturday (5/5).
