Andy was raised not far
from Dodger Stadium. He went to John Marshall high School, and transferred to
Glendale J.C. where he was an All Conference tackle. He transferred to Brigham
Young University and played tackle and guard from 1978-81. Andy earned a bachelor
and Masters degree in Physical Education.
He entered the coaching
ranks as a graduate assistant at BY U in 1982 for Lavell Edwards. Andy next
moved to San Francisco State in 1983 and helped the Gators lead the nation in
passing and total offense for 3 consecutive years as the offensive coordinator,
offensive line coach, and strength coach. He then continued to build his reputation
by developing quality offensive lines at Northern Arizona, Texas El Paso, and
Missouri.
Moving on to the Green Bay
Packers in 1995, Andy coached the tight ends for several years and then moved
to coaching the quarterbacks for Mike Holmgren In 1997, and Brett Farve earned
MVP honors with Andys coaching.
He became the head coach
of the Philadelphia Eagles in 1999. With a 12-4 record the Eagles posted their
best record since 1980 and tied for the best record in football. The Eagles
posted the best three win total in club history with 34 wins. He has coached
in 2 super bowls and in the NFC Championship games 5 times. Andy has received
many honors as a head coach. He has been selected as the NFL Coach of the Year
2002 and the following organizations have also named him Coach of the Year 2002,
The Sporting News, Sports Illustrated, Maxwell Football Club, and Pro Football
Weekly.
He now has the title of
Head Football Coach / Executive Vice President of Football Operations with the
Eagles.
