About the Hall of Fame...

The establishment of a Hall of Fame for California Community College Football started in the Spring of 1977 with an ad hoc committee composed of Bob Dinaberg, Santa Barbara City College, and Bill Young, Los Angeles Harbor College. It was recommended that the criteria for selection be discussed and reviewed. After several false starts and the problem of a permanent site for a Hall of Fame, the Board of Directors agreed to our present format at the December 1982 meeting in Bakersfield. The first Hall of Fame committee consisted of Gerry Collis-Bakersfield, Bill Dickey-College of San Mateo, Bob Dinaberg-Santa Barbara, Joe Marvin-Cabrillo -Marv Mays-Santa Rosa Junior College, Hal Sherbeck,-Fullerton, Ken Swearingen-Saddleback, and Len Smorin-San Diego Mesa, movers and shakers. The CCCFCA Board of Directors selected the first Hall of Fame members during the 1984 Spring meeting in Sacramento. Some of the greatest running backs of all time were included in the original class. Frank Gifford, Ollie Matson, Hugh McElhenny, Jackie Robinson, and O.J. Simpson were the first athletes inducted, Ray Tay Brown, was the first Coach, and Hank Ives was the first contributor inducted by the Football Coaches Association.
