[Saratoga, California, October 22nd, 2003]
The California Community
College League (CCLC) has named West Valley College Graduate Emmy Moore Minister
Distinguished Alum. This competitive award is given to only four Community College
alumni annually and will be presented at the CCLC Conference noon, Saturday,
November 22 at the Oakland Marriott Hotel.
President of a golf-media
consulting business, Moore Minister says
her career started at West Valley College. "I remember taking my
first golf class at West Valley College, and to think now, years
later, I work in the business of golf!"
"Actually, the award
should be going to the West Valley College
faculty who helped lay the foundation for my education and professional life,"
says Moore Minister. "I am not sure where I would be today if I hadn't
had such a positive community college
experience. The fact that I could receive a quality education at such
an affordable price still amazes me to this day. West Valley College prepared
me well for San Jose State University, and then on to a successful career working
for Fortune 500 Companies, and now, today, I am fortunate to run my own consulting
business."
Moore Minister is the first
woman to become an Honorary Member of the Northern California Section of the
Professional Golfers' Association (NCPGA). After receiving her AA Degree in
Business from West Valley Community College, she obtained a BS Degree in Advertising
from San Jose State University's School of Mass Communications and a Certificate
in Land Use Management from the School of Regional and Urban Studies at San
Jose State. She is a recipient of the Tribute to Women & Industry Award
and has earned the title of "Woman of the Year" from Via Rehabilitation
Services, formerly named Crippled Children's Society.
Her broadcasting work includes
hosting a weekly Silicon Valley based television program, Voice of the Valley.
The show focuses on people who are doing things to improve the quality of life
in our community.
The first woman to chair
the Santa Clara City Planning Commission, she served during the design and development
stages of Mission College. Last year, Moore Minister served on a state task
force to study the economic impact of golf course facilities in California.
Currently she serves on a statewide golf water task force that supports conservation
efforts on golf courses.
