CENTRAL VALLEY CONFERENCE NEWS

State Playoffs Include Four CVC Men's Teams, Two Women's

The CVC champion Fresno City College Rams earned the North's top seed as the men's basketball tournament pairings were released today. Fresno (27-8) will host the winner between No. 16 Monterey Peninsula (17-14) and No. 17 Los Medanos (20-11) on Saturday.

Three other CVC teams will also compete in the regional field - all playing 7 p.m. games on Friday: No. 5 West Hills (23-9) hosting No. 12 Cabrillo (19-8), No. 6 Merced (23-9) hosting No. 11 Yuba (25-7), and No. 10 Modesto (22-10) visiting No. 7 Delta (21-10).

On the women's side, CVC champion Reedley earned the North's No. 3 seed, and runner-up Fresno was awarded No. 11. Both district schools are also in the same bracket. Reedley (29-5) will host No. 14 Solano (19-13) on Friday, while Fresno (21-10) will visit No. 6 Lassen (24-6) on Saturday.

Women's Basketball "Player of the Week"
MODESTO JUNIOR COLLEGE forward KRYSTLE BROWN (6-0, So, Ceres HS) registered a double-double to help the Pirates win, 80-58, at Porterville (Feb. 17) in the season finale. She scored 13 points (6-15 FG) and pulled-down a game-high 14 rebounds. Brown also had team-highs with 13 points (5-11 FG), eight rebounds, and two blocks in Modesto's 55-50 loss against Fresno (Feb. 14). The Pirates finished fourth in the CVC (5-7), and 15-15 overall.

Men's Basketball "Player of the Week"
MODESTO JUNIOR COLLEGE guard KENNY THOMPSON (6-4, 180, So, Modesto HS) helped the Pirates close the CVC season with a pair of victories last week. Thompson scored a season-high 30 points (11-20 FG, 2-4 3FG) in an 88-72 win against Columbia (Feb. 14). He also had eight rebounds and two steals. Thompson's previous game-high was 20 points (recorded twice this season). He added 14 points, five rebounds, and two steals to help Modesto win at Sequoias, 86-64, in the CVC finale (Feb. 17). The Pirates finished fourth in the tough CVC (8- 6), and will take a 22-10 record into the playoffs.
