CENTRAL VALLEY CONFERENCE NEWS –

Women’s Basketball “Player of the Week”
MODESTO JUNIOR COLLEGE forward KELLY COLE (6-0, So, Denair HS, Turlock) recorded a pair of double-doubles as the Pirates went 2-0 last week. Cole posted 17 points (7-11 FG) and 14 rebounds in Modesto’s 82-57 win against Porterville (Jan. 24). She scored 17 points to go with 12 rebounds in a 76-68 victory over Taft (Jan. 27). Cole is averaging 9.7 points and 9.2 rebounds per game in conference play. Modesto improved to 4-3 in the CVC, and 14-11 overall.


Men’s Basketball “Player of the Week”
WEST HILLS COLLEGE forward CHARLES CARTER (6-9, 220, So, John Muir HS,
Pasadena) helped the Falcons knock-off CVC leaders – Fresno and Merced – to force a three-way tie atop the standings. Carter recorded a triple-double in a 100-90 victory against Fresno (Jan. 24): 23 points, 16 rebounds, and 12 blocks – all career-highs. He finished the game 9-for-10 shooting from the floor and 5-
for-5 from the foul line. Carter nearly posted a double-double in a 74-61 win over Merced. He registered nine points, 10 rebounds, along with three blocks and two steals. Carter entered the week averaging just five points per game.
Carter leads the team in rebounds (7.6 rpg) and blocked shots (4.0). He has 100 blocks this season, just one behind the state leader (Cuesta’s Jimmy Allen, 101).

CVC “Game of the Week” Broadcast
Men’s Basketball: No. 7 Fresno at No. 6 Merced

The Central Valley Conference Men’s Basketball “Game of the Week” broadcast will feature Fresno City College at Merced College on Saturday night.

The broadcast will start at 6:50 p.m., airing live on coasports.org, jctalk.com, and stretchinternet.com.

Fresno (21-8 overall), Merced (19-7), and No. 4 West Hills enter the week atop the CVC standings at 6-2. The Rams beat the Blue Devils, 95-83, in the first meeting back on Jan. 10.
