Womens Track and Field:
The Panthers won their second straight State Championship on Saturday evening
at the State Meet in Bakersfield.
Sara Clinkenbeard led the
squad with three first place finishes; she won the Discus (15003), the
Shot Put (4711.25) and the Hammer Throw (17905), while Freshman
Faunn Davis won the 100m Hurdles (14.16). Second place finishers include LaKischa
Fontenot in the High Jump competition (504.00), Elizabeth Parsley in the
Javelin (13702) and Aspen Marshall in the Discus (14101). Marshall
also finished in fourth place in both the Shot Put (4305.00) and the Hammer
Throw (15501). Other outstanding performances include LaSadies McClain
with a 3rd place in the 200m Dash (24.56) and a fourth place in the 100m Dash
(12.35), Ashley Nunes finished fourth in the 400m Hurdles (1:04.29) and Jimia
White who finished 4th in the Long Jump (1804.00) and 7th in the 100m
Dash (12.64). The 4X100m Relay Team placed fourth (47.14) and the 4X400m Relay
finished 6th (3:58.98). Zaira Estrada placed 5th in the 800m Run (2:19.53),
Pam Robertson finished eighth in the 400m Dash (59.46) and Nicole Matthias finished
eighth in the Javelin (13702).
Coach Lisa Bauduin was
named as the State Coach of the Year.
Softball: The Panthers won
their first State Championship since 1996 on Sunday afternoon when they defeated
Cypress College 3-1 in the title game. Nicole Cinque got the win and Krystina
Gomez earned the save as the combined to hold Cypress to just 1 run.
On Saturday the Panthers
battled the defending State Champs Mt. San Antonio finally winning in the bottom
of the 11th inning when Mandi Salcido singled home Brittany Hedrick for the
game winner.
In addition, Cinque was
named as Most Valuable Player with Gomez earning the Most Valuable Pitcher honors
and Traci Bender won the Golden Glove Award. The All-Tournament Team included
Cinque and Gomez as Pitchers, Amanda Bernard as catcher, Bender in the infield,
Hedrick in the outfield and Tony Rodriguez for utility.
