Softball: Head Coach Robert
Maglione has been named as the State Coach of the Year and the Bay Valley Conference
Coach of the Year after leading the Panthers to a 39-2 regular season record
and a # 1 ranking in the state polls. The Panthers have been ranked in the top
three all year and enter the state play-offs with the top seed. Wendi Salgo
leads the team in hitting, ranked # 10 in the state with a .489 average. She
is also 5th in the state in Runs Batted In with 41 and has been chosen as a
member of the 2004 All-State Team along with teammates Pitcher Nikki Cinque
and infielder Traci Bender. Cinque who leads the state in Earned Run Average
at 0.372 has also been named as the State Pitcher of the Year for 2004 as well
as the MVP Pitcher of the BVC East.
Additionally, Krystina
Gomez (Pitcher), Traci Bender (Infielder), Britney Hedrick (Outfield), and Wendi
Salgo (Utility) have been named as 1st Team All-Conference selections for the
Bay Valley East.
5/5/04-The Panthers played
host to the College of the Sequoias in the first round of the state play-offs
on Wednesday afternoon winning the contest 2-0. Sac City Will host the second
on Saturday with the first game at 12:00 noon followed by a 2:00 contest.
Womens Track and Field:
The Nor-Cal Trials were held this past weekend at American River College. Sara
Clinkenbeard continued her dominance winning the Nor-Cal in the Hammer while
establishing a new Nor-Cal record with a throw of 18000. Aspen Marshall
took second place in the Hammer with a throw of 15703 and both Marshall
and Clinkenbeard have qualified for the State Finals in Bakersfield in two weeks.
Zaira Estrada set a new school record in the 800m Run with a time of 2:18.64
breaking Stephanie Richardsons 1986 record of 2:19.54. Elizabeth Parsley
won the Javelin, broke her own school record with a 13903 mark,
and also qualified for the State Meet. Also qualifying for the State Meet; Nicole
Matthias who finished fourth in the Javelin (11609), and Jimia White who
took second in the Long Jump at 1810.50.
In addition, the following
athletes qualify for the Nor-Cal Finals next weekend in Modesto; LaSadies McClain
(100m, 200m), Jimia White (100m), Pam Robertson (200m, 400m), LaKischa Fontenot
(400m, 100m Hurdles), Monique Hunter (400m), Faunn Davis (100m Hurdles), Ashley
Nunes (400m Hurdles), Sara Clinkenbeard (Shot Put, Discus), Elizabeth Parsley
(Shot Put, Discus), and Aspen Marshall (Shot Put, Discus).
Womens Swimming: Sac
City finished fourth at the State Meet which is the best finish for a Sac City
Womens team in school history. The Panthers 800m Freestyle relay consisting
of Amber Haverstock, Kerry Cunion, Kaitlin Kubli and Danielle Kahn placed second
(7:57.81) behind State Champion Santa Rosa with Haverstock setting a new team
record in the 200m with a time of 1:59.55. They also set a new team record in
the 400m Freestyle finishing 8th with a time of 3:44.85. Danielle Kahn establish
three new team records in her events with a 3rd place in the 200IM (2:14.17),
a3rd place in the 100m Back (59.26) and in the 500m Freestyle where she finished
in 6th with a time of 5:19.81. Amber Haverstock also set a new record in the
1650m (mile) finishing 3rd at 18:25.62, and went on to finish 8th in the 500M
Freestyle (5:21.30) and 10th in the 100m Breast (1:10.83). Other notable finishes
include Kaitlin Kubli who placed 9th in the 50m Back (28.94), 11th in both the
Free (5:25.76) and the 100m Back stroke (1:02.35). Kaydi Barrus placed 10th
in the 50m Back (29.19), 12th in the 100m Back (1:03.39) and 15th in the 200m
IM (2:21.24), while Kerry Cunion finished 10th in the 200m Freestyle with a
time of 2:00.80.
