Last Week:

Softball: The Panthers improved to 17-0 after beating Cosumnes River College twice on Thursday afternoon 5-0 and 11-0. Sac City tops the state polls after receiving 4 of the 5 first place votes.

Wendy Salgo leads the state in batting with a .679 average, while pitchers Tiffany Tomsen (0.00) and Nicole Cinque (0.30) are ranked # 1 and # 3 respectively in ERA in the state.

The # 1 ranked Panthers will host # 8 Ranked Sierra College (18-2) on Tuesday afternoon with the first game starting at 1:00 and the second contest at 3:00. Prior to the games, the Student-Athletic Counsel will hold a rally supporting the team. On Thursday, Sac City travels to Stockton to battle S.J. Delta College.

Baseball: The Panthers improved to 10-3, 4-0 last week after beating Yuba College 11-5 on Tuesday and American River College 3-0 on Thursday.

Freshman Russell Hocking earned his first victory in the Yuba game while sophomore Ryan Mattheus moves to 2-0 with the victory over ARC.

Sac City hosts Sierra College on Tuesday, Cosumnes River College on Thursday and then travels to Solano College on Saturday.

Women’ Track and Field: (Season to date highlights)

2/20/04-ARC 4-way meet.

The Panthers won their first meet of the season with a number of outstanding performances; Elizabeth Parsley set a new school record in the Javelin with a mark of 134-04 beating her previous record of 132-05. Sara Clinkenbeard won the Hammer Throw (171-08) and the Shot put (44-09.00) and placed second in the Discus (130-03) behind teammate Aspen Marshall (134-07). Marshall had second place finishes in the Hammer (151-07), Shot Put (43-03.00) and the Javelin (104-10). LaKischa Fontenot won the High Jump at 5-00.00 and the 100 Meter Hurdles (15.58), while Jimia White took the Long Jump with a 16-03.75 effort and the 100 Meter Dash at 13.13. Other notable performances include; LaSadies McClain who won the 400 Meter Hurdles (1:00.07) and the 200 Meter Dash (25.23), Allissa Horejsi won the 1500 Meter Run (5:22.54) and the 800 Meter Run (2:34.07) and Ashley Nunes who the 400 Meter Hurdles (1:07.94).

2/28/04 SCC 5-Way Meet.

Sac City won the meet by compiling 10 first place finishes and scoring 231.5 points. The Panthers had several great performances in the throwing events. Sara Clinkenbeard had three first place finishes in the Hammer, Discus, and the Shot Put. She broke her own record in the Hammer with a 181-02 effort. Aspen Marshall placed second in the Javelin, Hammer and Discus and third in the Shot Put. Elizabeth Parsley won the Javelin with a throw of 125-06, while LaKischa Fontenot won the High Jump at 5-04. In the running events; LaSadies McClain won the 100M Dash (12.37) and the 200 M Dash (24.91), she also anchored the 4X100M and 4X400 M Relay Teams to first place finishes. Zaira Estrada won the 800 M Run in 2:31.44, while Pam Robertson finished second in the 400 M Dash (1:00.99), and Ashley Nunes had a second place finish in the 400 M Hurdles at 1:06.7.

3/6/04 Beaver Relays at ARC.

Aspen Marshall won the Discus (134-11) and placed second in the Hammer Throw and the Shot Put behind teammate Sara Clinkenbeard. Elizabeth Parsley won the Javelin and LaKischa Fontenot won the High Jump competition. The Panther relay teams won the 4X100 and the 4X400 races while Ashley Nunes won the 400 M Hurdles.

Sac City hosts the Stan Wright Invitational this weekend at Hughes Stadium.

Men’s Track and Field: (Season to date highlights)

2/13/04 BVC Relays in Santa Rosa.

Opening day for the Panthers in a non-scored meet. Freshman Shane Mervau won the Shot Put at 47-00 and also placed 4th in the Hammer. Freshman Matthew McCray won the Long Jump (20-8) and Mark Paige tied for first in the High Jump (5-10). Brett Silverman finished 4th in the Long Jump and 5th in the Javelin, while Shane Fackrell finished fourth in the Javelin and 6th in the High Jump.

2/20/04 ARC 5-Way Meet.

Sac City placed second in the meet with several notable performances. Mark Paige won the 100 M Dash (11.03), Paul Mateoc won the 200 M Dash (23.22), Cedric Ellis won the 400 M Run (49.88) and Jose Aguilar won the 1500 M Run at 4:14.82. Paige also tied for 1st in the High Jump with teammate Shane Fackrell at 5’10”, and Brett Silverman won the Triple Jump at 42’6. 5”.

2/28/04 SCC 5-Way Meet.

The Panthers took second place in their first home meet of the season. Mark Paige won the 100 M (11.24), Todd Naffzinger won the 400 Intermediate Hurdles (1:04.15) Chris Gray won the Long Jump (22-2.5) and Shane Mervau won the Shot Put at 45’10. 25”.

Last Weekend:

The Panthers traveled to Bakersfield to participate in a meet that included 1900 entries from 32 different colleges. Individual highlights include; Paul Mateoc finished 4th in the Triple Jump, Mark Paige placed 5th in the 200 M, and Chris Gray took a 5th place in the Long Jump. Shane Mervau finished in sixth place in the Shot Put, while Cedric Ellis also placed sixth in his 400M race.

The Panthers host their Annual Stan Wright Invitational on Saturday at Hughes Stadium.
