Panthers Earn All-Conference
Selection
All conference selections
were announced Saturday for the Bay Valley Conference with Panthers Tola Tallman-Famuyiwa
and Soledad Montemayor making the team. Tallman-Famuyiwa leads the Panthers
in almost every offensive category this year. The sophomore from Mira Loma High
School is averaging 17.9 points per game along with 13.6 rebounds and Friday
at San Joaquin Delta College she established a new school single season record
for steals with 138 for the year. Donanda Bridges set the record of 135 steals
during the 1991-92 season.
Soledad Montemayor who
is a team captain along with Tallman-Famuyiwa leads the team in assists with
6.5 assists per game. The sophomore point guard from St. Francis High School
also set a milestone on Friday when she tied former Panther Nicole Ybarra (97-98)
for the school single season record for assists with 200 for the year. Montemayor
will have an opportunity to break the record should Sac City receive a play-off
bid on Monday.
Others receiving All-Conference
selections around the league are;
MVP Michelle Cozad, a 5'10" sophomore guard, Jocelyn Manzebo a 5'6"
point guard and 5'6" freshman guard Lisa Sullivan all from San Joaquin
Delta College. Sierra College's Lindsey Rice a 5'11" sophomore forward
and Meghan Griffin a 6'3" freshman center, along with ARC's Hayley Shelstad
a 5'10" sophomore guard and Elizabeth Wolfing a 5'11" sophomore forward.
Cosumnes River 's 6'3" sophomore center Kim Parker and teammate Charlisse
Butler a 5'3" freshman point guard also made the team, as well as Yuba
College's Sarah Webster a 5'9" freshman post player.
San Joaquin Delta College
head Coach Gina Johnson who's Mustangs won the conference championship was the
unanimous choice for coach of the year honors.
